Château de Pressac 2011 : 92 / 100
Inky dark ruby colour with a purple hue. Pure nose, youthful dark fruit, cassis and wild berries with discreet oak, some tobacco and sage notes. Dense fruit on the palate, rather ample structure with freshly crushed fruit, cassis, a sage/tobacco spiciness, finely tuned oak, ripe tannin and a long rounded finish with digest dark fruit. Very good drinkability today.

« Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Deep purple red with violet hue and black core. Rich and aromatic nose with almost balmy spiciness, ripe fruit, quite complex however still more closed on the nose than on the palate. Mature tannins, excellent structure and good concentration, wonderful balance. A wine with depth and length from a Château having made enormous progress over the last decade. »

« From the eastern plateau, its vines on favoured slopes, a number of which are terraced, in 2017 this is a unique blend of 74% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Carmenère and 1% Malbec, known locally as Pressac of course, and long associated with this château, which has been revitalised in recent years. I find a nose of black plum and sweet fruitcake here, primary, classic and charming, with a little creamed concentration, and an icing sugar sweetness. The palate feels more taut and finely grained than I expected from the nose, with a wealth of sweet fruit, very cleanly defined, albeit dark to the point where it feels grilled and wrapped in toast. It is fresh, pure, intense, dark and concentrated, underpinned by very firm, thrusting and slightly bitter tannins, nevertheless this does have nice potential. Impressive. Tasted twice. 92-94/100. »

« La robe est très sombre avec un très beau nez de mûre. Le vin est dense et suave, beau milieu de bouche très harmonieux, les tannins sont bien présents, la finale splendide. Le vin est moins monumental que les 2015 et 2016, mais quelle harmonie ! 3-12 ans. »

« One of the highlights of the year, the 2015 de Pressac is outrageously beautiful, just as it was from barrel. The inclusion of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménère gives the wine striking aromatic nuance and myriad shades of dimension. Super-ripe, inky red plum, spice, leather and espresso nuances build into the huge, voluptuous finish. There is more than enough structure to allow the 2015 to age well for many years. This one of the most distinctive and yet also under-the-radar wines being made in Saint-Émilion today. The blend is 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 5% Carménère. Don’t miss it. « Robe intense rubis, très profonde, encore jeune avec des nuances sur la cerise noire, on a de la densité et des larmes multiples et courtes sur le verre. Le nez est élégant complexe fin et racé, il développe des notes de petites baies rouges et noires (fraise, cerise bigarreau, mûre et myrtille) joints à des parfums de fève de cacao, de moka et de vanille. A l’aération on a un vin tout en finesse et très évolutif sur le registre boisé avec des parfums grillés, toastés, torréfiés. La bouche est à la hauteur du nez… Une attaque ample, pleine et veloutée qui tapisse le palais et qui restitue parfaitement les parfums de fruits juteux. A l’évolution, beaucoup de sève et même si on a un vin plus étoffé: quelle volupté. Les tanins fins sont parfaitement intégrés à la chair. C’est même en restant jeune et plus ferme sur la finale, d’une grande classe. Projetons-le dans l’avenir mais que d’attente ! Une réussite avec une finale très persistante sur toute une palette aromatique boisée. »
