Château de Pressac

Revue de presse

James Suckling – Avril 2024 – 94-95pts

Really refined and focused with blackberry, blueberry and crushed stone. Medium-bodied with class and tension. Racy.

Yves Beck – Avril 2024 – 94pts

Tom Mullen – Mai 2024 – 95-96pts

A blend of Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Cabernet Sauvignon/Carménère/Malbec/Petit Verdot from rom Jean-François and Dominique Quenin comes this wine aged 18 months in new and used oak barrels and clay amphorae. Spry aromas—think tangerine tajine, orange slices pulled from sangria, strawberries and shortbread. A linear attack followed by a three course mid palate including yams, cassis, chocolate and red cherries on the finish. Bright acidity that tingles the tongue and an unobtrusive set of tannins. Pair with mirepoix and cous cous, or a mushroom casserole. More integrated than the 2019 vintage and as complex and delightful as from the 2018 vintage.

Lisa Perrotti – Mai 2024 – 92-94pts

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 de Pressac needs a lot of patient swirling to bring out notes of redcurrant jelly and juicy plums leading to underlying hints of lilacs, pencil shavings, and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate is lively and soft-textured, with delicately layered, understated fruit and a perfumed, whispery finish. This is very pretty!

Adrian Van Velsen – Avril 2024 – 93-95 pts

Tiefgründig, reiffruchtig, Brombeeren, schwarze Johannisbeeren, florale Noten.

Chris Kissack – Avril 2024 – 93-95pts

The 2023 from Château de Pressac offers threads of sweet red cherry and redcurrant swirled with leather, tobacco, vanilla and toast. And there is a touch of cherry ripple ice cream here, with a black pepper lift. This is immediately convincing on the palate, feeling dark and more concentrated than the nose suggested, with dark summer fruits partnered with violets, dark chocolate and toast, supported by a very confidently extracted bed of tannins, which are firm but ripe and tightly knit together. This is a very smart example of the St Emilion appellation, with the sinewy and rather lithe construct that defines the vintage, and the freshness too, but a more present tannic grip than many. One for the cellar.

Jane Anson – Avril 2024 – 94pts

Beautifully deep inky plum colour, a touch of heat on the nose, but well balanced by peony flowers and damson fruits. This stretches out through the palate, white pepper and rosemary spice notes, a kick of turmeric and cinnamon, good persistency, and combines exuberance and restraint. 45% new oak and 5% in amphora for ageing. Jean-François and Dominique Quenin owners, Hubert de Boüard consultant, 50% new oak for ageing.

Markus Del Monego – Avril 2024 – 94pts

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Densely woven nose with distinct oak influence, fine toasting, oak spices, vanilla and hints of mocha in the background. Complemented by ripe boysenberries, mulberries and juicy plums, slightly floral hints in the background. On the palate well structured with rather good mid palate and convincing length. Well balanced character.

Bettane & Desseauve – Mai 2024 – 94pts

Panos Kakaviatos – Mai 2024 – 93pts

Aging 18 months in 50% new oak, this wine has a darker tone than average with a ‘modern sheen’ reflected in more evident oak-derived tannin and ultra-ripe fruit, both dark and red, which is a good thing! I do sense some tannin extraction more than I would like but admire impressive mid palate concentration and depth. Barrel ageing will arrange things nicely. Drinking Window: 2027 – 2047

Izak Litwar – Mai 2024 – 93-94pts

This wine exhibits abundant aromas and flavors of morello cherries and raspberries. These are complemented by velvety tannins and lively acidity. The wine displays excellent structure, subtle complexity, and perfect balance. The finish is enduring, making it a splendid wine. 93-94p.

Chris Kissack – Avril 2024 – 94pts

A really integrated and charming aromatic profile to this wine from Jean-François Quenin, with fine black cherry and dusty summer berry fruits, as well as veins of sandalwood, smoke, tar and liquorice. A really nicely composed palate follows, elegantly restrained, with a blanket of cherry and berry fruits laid over a frame of powdery and integrated tannins, all very harmoniously put together, before a sweet and focused finish. This seems to have everything in place to come good; just give it another five years. 94/100

Jean-Marc Quarin – Avril 2024 – 93pts

Bravo ! Assemblage : 70 % merlot, 16,5 % cabernet franc, 9 % cabernet sauvignon, 2 % carmenère, 2 % malbec, 0,5 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool : 14°5 – pH : 3,55. Rendement : 38 hl/ha. Production : 125 000 bouteilles. Elevage 16 à 18 mois : 95 % en barriques dont 50 % de bois neuf et 5 % en amphores.

Jeb Dunnuck – Avril 2024 – 91-93pts

The 2023 Château De Pressac is a beauty. Medium-bodied, focused, nicely concentrated, and elegant on the palate, it has ample red and black fruits, notes of spice and chalky minerality, background oak, and fine tannins that emerge on the finish. It’s going to need a few years to integrate its oak, but this is impressive and should be long-lived.

Neal Martin – Avril 2024 – 91-93 pts

The 2023 Château de Pressac has a beautifully defined bouquet, with blackberry and wild strawberry fruit commingling with subtle floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This is a classically styled Claret with freshness and light marine scents that define the finish. A delightfull Saint-Emilion in the making, this comes recommended.

Rod Smith – Mai 2024 – 92 pts

Very inviting chalky blue fruit aromas with some mild spices and raspberry. The oak (50% new) has not managed to suppress the sheer weight of the fruit here. Lovely silkiness of texture and depth. Fine fresh acidity and good refined extracted tannins without excess heat or alcohol. This is a terrific effort in this vintage. Very good.

Jeff Leve – Mai 2024 – 92-94pts

Flowers, licorice, spice, and black raspberries fill the perfume. Medium-bodied, soft, elegant, and fresh, with a vibrancy to the salt-tinted, chocolate-accented, red fruits in the finish.
